Sheri Kimura
ELDOA Teacher Trainer, Pilates Instructor (mat & equipment), Soma Trainer
Sheri believes in the power of good movement for self agency, well being, and being able to simply enjoy life. She focuses on helping clients cultivate a calm mind and deep strength in ELDOA / Pilates classes and personal training sessions. A shy kid in the the competitive dance world, Sheri grew up learning to express and liberate herself through movement. In kind, her classes always include full body, large movements to “take up space”, and then deeper, challenging exercises to find and unwind one’s own restrictions, identify compensations and release stress. Sheri’s approach is influenced by Deane Juhan’s premise that the more we know ourselves physically, the better we can know ourselves in the context of the world around us. Although Deane Juhan was speaking through the lens of manual therapy, Sheri feels that movement can offer the same benefits. This means that every client’s journey, even in group classes, is a personal one.
Sheri loves working with people who are curious about the way they currently use their bodies, and how they might push their limits safely to find more freedom in their day to day movements. Her goal is to offer an equal amount of play and focused work in each class, so that clients can leave mentally refreshed and physically reinforced.
Personal experience / interests
Alongside a lifetime of dance, from breakdancing to tap, Sheri also loves rock climbing and has explored crags and boulders around North America. Mountain biking is another passion, and despite a ridiculous number of cuts, bruises, and bumps, she continues to love trail riding for the gruelling climbs, heady jump lines, and exciting descents! Every morning, Sheri tries to learn a little bit of Tai Chi or Qi Gong, and a little bit of French.
Favourite muscle: Having had surgery on both knees at age 29, Sheri has a fondness for the articularis genu. This neat little muscle pumps synovial fluid into the joint capsule, deep to the patella.
